Many of us are handy enough to replace a small piece of cushioned floor in the bathroom. Even without leveler the mastic can be put down with a serrated plastic tool and then the vinyl piece put into place. Since most bathrooms are rectangular many of the cuts are straight and, since much of the plumbing is below the vanity pipes, this never come into question. However, there is the problem of the toilet bowl.
Toilets are sealed in place with a wax ring. This ring must be changed when a toilet is moved so the old one is scraped off after. To move the toilet first shut off the water. Then flush the toilet to empty the tank and use a plunger to push the remaining water down the drain. Undo the hold-down bolts on the base of the toilet (they are usually brass so take it easy) and the rock the toilet back and forth to break the seal. The toilet can be slid out of the bathroom on a piece of cardboard which will also absorb any excess water drips.
Turn the toilet upside down and scrape the old wax off the bottom with a putty knife. There may be a plastic funnel built into the ring and take this out too. WD-40 works to get the hard wax off. Put the new wax ring on the "toilet horn" or sewer end and it should fit perfectly.
When the cushion floor is put down you can cut away the flooring around the toilet drain. before you put back the toilet check the hold-down bolts. If they are corroded new ones don't cost much so just replace them.
This is the hard part so try and get a helper. The toilet must go down squarely on the hold-down bolts. So once you pick up the toilet you cannot just put it back down on the wax seal or this will be squashed into the wrong shape and never seal properly when put in right.
After the bolts have been screwed down the excess bolt can be sawed off so that the plastic caps can be put on. Check the water line nut next to the shut-off valve for leaks and tighten if necessary. Put a bead of silicone around the bottom of the toilet and the new floor to keep water from getting under the toilet. Now hook up your toilet and you are good to go.
For those of you who are squeamish just call a plumber. It's a fast job for a pro.
